Photography

Having continued photography for the second year i was able to come up with some pretty amazing photos. I found that my pin-hole camera had a light leak in it and did not act as a complete black body. with the help Mr. Lockwood I found where the light leak was and i used a hood to cover it. This helped minimise the light leak and I got some great photos. Some which ccan even be used for my IB visual arts exhibition.

I took pictures which reflect my visual arts theme, culture and these will be exhibited.

There will be a few photos which I will upload on this. Over all it has been a great month with photography. I gained more knowledge last wek in using Photoshop in editing my photos.

Saisa swimming 2009/2010

Saisa swimming 2009/2010 was the last opportunity we seniors got to show our talents and skills in an international community. The training period went for 6 weeks which included a local swim tournament on every saturday, which helped us over come our tournament fear and nervousness.

As a senior member of the swim team many of us shared a common goal, that was to break our PB's (personal best). We weren't the strongest team which participated but we weren't the weakest either.

Having trained for 6 intence weeks, the day of departure finally came. We were going to Bombay, to participate in the SAISA swim tournament 2009.

In one word i can sumerise the yournament, it was jusr "amazing" we were able to shatter our personal bests, and over all we came in 4th place which i think is a very good achievment when looking back at the team we travelled with. There weren't many swimmers who came with it the top 3, but most of us got in to the finals.

I broke my personal best by 28 mili seconds in my 50m free style, and 1.2 seconds on my 100m free style and moreover 1.23seconds on my 100m breastroke.

In the two relays (400m freestyle) and (200m IM) the OSC team came in th and 3rd respectively.

One thing we wanted to win was the sportsman ship award, we cheered our throughts out for all the teams that took part and well at the end of the day its us who walked away with the sportsman ship award.

All in all my last SAISA was an amazing adventure, which was nothing but fun fun and comepetition.

War victory dansala!

Amazed by the great patriotic victory on the 19th of May 2009, we planned to give out a dasala. Dansala is where we collect money and make food and give it to passer by's....

We made 40 leters of mixed fruit nectar.... It was a bomb! And since it was directly after the vesak dansala there was a good responce to it....

Vesak Dansala

A dansala is an opportunity we get to provide food/drinks to people who go about the city to see the beautiful vesak sights. Inorder to do this we had to collect money by visiting people and telling them about our plan. We collected 11000 rupees, which was more than enough. This is the third time my friends and are organizing such event. We are giving chickpeas and nectar, which i think is a pretty awkward combintaion but yes!

We created a banner which looks pretty cool.... Photos will be uploaded soonish!

Hoping to have a blast during vesak (eventhough we are spposed to observe sil! )

One of my main goals in this is for non Sri Lankans to join me with this.

The big day came finally! I was amazed by the quick servings we did! I managed to squeez some of my friends from their busy schedules.... Ruwinda Gehan and Seong and Umeshan made it, it was nice to see unity in diversity ih a vesak dansala! The goods went like hot cakes, and we were quite happy.....

Photography

After MUN i had to select an elective. I selected photography as an elective. They were in the process of developing a Pin hole camera. The camera is simple but creative. My pin hole camera was not bad as a starter. The photos i took with it were upto a particular standard, and Mr. Lokwood was impressed with my pinhole photography. The process is simple, you take a tin and cover its inner side with black paper and make a hole on the outer side. This will allow the light to come in dirent on to the photography paper.

MUN 2009 OVER!!!!

MUN, my elective at OSC had the annual conference at school and at the Intercontinental Hotel.
I was in the second commitee and i had to do my research on three topics concering the economy of the world. I was a delegate of Malaysia, representing the second com. As far as i can remember one was on uneployment and the impact the fiscal policy has on it.

It all started with filling in my FPS (foreign policy statement). It's basicaly a statement in which one writes their country's stance.

It was a whole new experience for me as a first timer at MUN. It was totaly abstract and the way it was organised made me proud of my own school, as it was organised by OSC. The first day was kind of wierd as it was a whole new concept for me. day one is all about caucusing. and we finished all three reslolutions.

My main goal was to help the delegates in coming up with a good resolution, and i did so. Even though any of our resolutions didn't get passed cause of the over whelming majority the other resolutions had. I still feel great and proud cause i contributed something which helped us all.

It was about thre hectic days, with no rest at all. But all in alll it was a job well done. and i miss all those times i had at MUN. :D

WWW

My first www was simply awesome.....On one hand it was an opportunity for us to interact with small/poor kids, it was an opportunity for us to paint two schools, and enhance our talents. Our school was in a pretty bad state as far as its outer and inner look was concerned. the walls were in apretty bad state. Our three day visit to the school made us do a complete color wash and as well as we were able to do a attractive painting on the wall which all of the teachers and children liked.

Day one was a pretty new as far as everything was concerened. The kids warmly greeted us and later gave us a traditional meal. The whole thing started with liting up the traditional oil lamp, later a preist came and addressed us and blessed us as we started to work. It was a new experience for most of us. After sand papering all the walls and grills we started off painting. We had no time to waste, it was a three day task and we had to put in 150% effort. It was rather surprising to see most of the parents actually coming and grabbing the paint brushes from us. and there were soo many instences where we had to get back the brushes from them......

We were able to paint the two main walls and we were kind of behind time when it came to the grills. and that was the day i found out that painting was actullay soo hard....the pillars were done beautifully and by the end of the first day we had finished about 30% which i think is a great achievement. We made it a point to bring extra paint brushes the next day inoder to keep the parents happy :P cause they were wating to work soo much :P............

First day was very tiring and we had to burn our selves inorder to get what we came for. First days interaction with the kids wasnt that amazing cause they were cricket orientated and we didnt have any cricket equipment to satisfy them :( quite sad i would say.........As far as team work and communication adn interaction were concerened we actually Learned a lot....

day 2-

Another tiring stress full day....Well the abstractness wasn't as much as the first day but still it was pretty tough to cope up with the remaining work as our goal was to altleast finish 75% by the end of that day.....We hardly took any breaks, we were able to finish doing the park/play area by the second day. So we got all the people who were involved in other areas to focus on our wire meshes, which had a lot of work to be done........

By the end of day two we were able to finish quite a lot of work....

day 3-

Was the last day on your schedule, was rather a hectic one with soo much of work to be done. and I as a team leader of group D, I had loads of reposibilties over my head. But with the coperation I got from my team members we were able to finish all the work. We finished the floor and gavethem paint to do what even they wanted with it, we made our selves happy as well :).......

We finished all our work and then later the kids did a performence and it was soo nice...It was very sweet of them, we too rehersed at the hotel and did a small concert for them which turned out to be very nice and sweet :D.......
